A
plant survey conducted in 2003 lists over 150 species of flower,
shrub or tree, that are native to our area. Four species are
listed as rare by the New York Natural Heritage Program. Two
species, Common Persimmon
(Diospyros
virginiana) and Smartweed Dodder |

(Cuscuta
polygonorum) were recorded in a 1996 survey, but significant
new stands were found. The same individual Butternut (Juglans
cinerea) was observed again. The fourth, Field Dodder (Cuscuta
pentagona) is new to Hoffman Center. As a friend of Hoffman
Center, David has spent many hours in the
field,
documenting the plants you will see when you visit.
